Did you know that there are more than 200 moons and candidate moons in the Solar System?
The Earth has only 1 moon. The planet Jupiter, however, has 90 moons. When a large object orbiting a planet is discovered, a procedure is initiated to recognize the object as a moon, making it a candidate moon. Among these 90 objects, however, there are quite a few that are no larger than 5 km, which is very small for a moon.
Here is an overview of the planets with the number of moons (including unrecognized moons):
Mercury: None
Venus: None
Earth: 1 Moon
Mars: 2 Moons
Jupiter: 90 Moons
Saturn: 80 Moons
Uranus: 27 Moons
Neptune: 14 Moons
Pluto: 3 Moons
