Did you know that the Bible does not mention Adam and Eve eating an apple in Paradise?
In stained glass, paintings, and other images depicting the scene of the forbidden fruit from the Bible, an apple is almost always shown. However, the Bible only mentions that Adam and Eve ate a fruit in Paradise. It does not specify which fruit it was. The Bible refers to “the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
The association with an apple likely comes from later interpretations and cultural tradition. In medieval art and literature, the fruit was often depicted as an apple, possibly due to a Latin wordplay. The Latin word for evil, “malum,” can also mean “apple.” This may have contributed to the apple’s popularity as a symbol of the forbidden fruit.
So, although many people think of an apple, the forbidden fruit could actually have been another type of fruit.
