Did you know that in Great Britain, people walk on the right despite driving on the left?

Cars drive on the left side of the roads, but in shopping streets and on the metro, people walk on the right. The left-side driving dates back to the Middle Ages when knights dueled with lances. They held their lance in their right hand and rode on the left so they could better and more easily aim at their opponent.

Walking on the right is similar to the Netherlands, where we often walk on the left side of the road to better and more quickly see approaching traffic (coming from your right). Since driving in Great Britain is on the left, people walk on the right to achieve the same effect.
