Did you know that the country with the most inhabitants is India?
India has approximately 1.409 billion (1,410,000,000) inhabitants, which is nearly 18% of the world’s population. China follows closely behind with over 1.407 billion inhabitants, also representing more than 18% of the world’s population. The Indian population is growing faster than the Chinese population, which means that India overtook China in terms of the number of inhabitants a few years ago. China’s one-child policy, which was in effect from 1979 to 2015, strongly contributed to this. In fact, a decline in the Chinese population is expected.
After India and China, there is a large gap. The United States has the third largest population after China and India, with 332 million inhabitants.
