Did you know that the heart of a mouse beats more than 600 times per minute?
So, the heart of a mouse beats 10 times per second. In comparison, a human’s heart beats 60 to 80 times per minute. All mammals have roughly a billion (1,000,000,000) heartbeats in their entire lifetime. Some mammals use up this number of beats faster than others. Mammals with a faster heartbeat tend to have shorter lifespans compared to those with a slower heartbeat. For example, an elephant has a heartbeat of no more than 40 beats per minute and lives much longer than a mouse. Although a hummingbird is not a mammal, it has a heartbeat of over 1000 times per minute.
