Did you know that if the Bible is taken very literally, the creation occurred about 6,000 years ago?
Irish Archbishop James Ussher made a calculation based on the genealogies in the Bible. His conclusion was that the Earth was created on October 23, 4004 BC.
However, most scientists estimate the Earth’s age to be between 4 and 5 billion years, with the Earth having formed from the solar nebula. This estimate is based on various scientific techniques, such as radiometric dating of rocks and meteorites. The earth sciences, including the study of the geological timescale and fossils, also support this much older age of the Earth.
The difference between the biblical chronology and scientific findings highlights the gap between religious and scientific approaches to the history of the Earth and the universe.
