Did you know that the largest containership on earth is the MSC Irina?
The ship is nearly 400 meters long, 62 meters wide, and about 20 stories tall. It can carry 240,000 tons in up to 24,346 containers. The MSC Irina is part of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) fleet.
This ship is part of the new generation of ultra-large container ships used on the Asia-Europe trade route, equipped with the latest technologies for fuel efficiency and emission reduction.
These ships carry containers both on top of the deck and below the deck. On the deck of these ships, containers are often stacked 12 to 13 high. Below deck, there is also space for another 10 to 12 layers of containers.
